CONCEPT
The “rotated sawtooth” museum derives its form from a precedent study of David Chipperfield Architects’ Museo Jumex, in which students were called to design formally by using the products of a formal and programmatic analysis as literal building blocks. Here, the distinctive sawtooth roof of the Museo Jumex makes an unmistakable reappearance in this museum’s exterior.
SYNTHESIZING MODELS
Forms derived from a formal and programmatic analysis of the Museo Jumex are synthesized to create a new facade. When rotated, the sawtooth form naturally creates four distinct divisions in elevation, while offering unexpected opportunities for fenestration. Following this cue, the interior conditions are arranged to reflect the clear division in floor to ceiling heights.
